Coveware published their Quarterly Ransomware Report on February 1, 2021. Most notable: Fewer companies are giving in to cyber extortion when they are able to recover from back ups which has resulted in a large decline in average ransom amounts paid in Q4 2020. Here are some quick ransomware payment statistics from Coveware’s Q4 2020 Ransomware Report.

Q4 2020 Highlights

  • The average ransom payment for Q4 2020 was $154,108. This is down 34% from Q3 2020 ($233,817).
  • The median ransom payment for Q4 2020 was $49,450 – down 55% from Q3 2020 ($110,532).
  • The top 5 most common Ransomware types for Q4 2020 include: Sodinokibi, Egregor, Ryuk, Netwalker, and Maze.
